There are a few possibilities for allowances:
– The allowance for students is €200. The student can apply for ‘Wetsus Grant’ allowance (€200 extra; an internal committee decides if the allowance will be granted).
– Students can apply for Erasmus; (if the Erasmus grant is less than €400, the student can apply for the Wetsus Grant).
– Erasmus
*The Wetsus Grant allowance is not guaranteed and must be approved by the Grant Committee.
Project description:
Modified electrodialysis metathesis (mEDM) is a high-recovery and chemical-free membrane technology. This innovative concept splits the concentrate into separate streams containing highly soluble salts, such as Na₂SO₄ and CaCl₂, thereby significantly reducing the risk of scaling during water treatment. In a brackish groundwater case study, we have successfully validated this concept at a water recovery of >95% without chemical addition.
However, our previous study only included the main ionic contents: Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl-, and SO42- for the water treatment simulation. Problematic ion, HCO3–, is inevitable in any water treatment and triggers scaling issues, even at a low concentration. For a better practical simulation, it is crucial to study the transport and impact of HCO3– on the mEDM process. The assessment directly influences the economic and environmental values of mEDM in future applications.
Main tasks:
– Operate ED cells, including installation and maintenance;
– Recover freshwater from brackish water at a high rate;
– Data analysis regarding scaling and water recovery.
– Scientific writing and presentation.
Your profile:
– Background in environmental engineering, environmental science, water technology, or any other related background;
– Currently enrolling as MSc student (studying in the Netherlands, or has citizenship of an EU country);
– Good in English, both writing and speaking;
– Motivated, responsible, and organized;
– Experience with laboratory work.
How to apply:
Please attach your CV (max 2 pages) and motivation letter (max 1 page) in the application form below. You can contact the Kecen Li (Kecen.Li@wetsus.nl) for any questions or information through the message option.
